VIVAT Charity shortlist – vote for your winners

We have shortlisted seven amazing charities, from a total of 28 put forward, for the final stage of our VIVAT Charity initiative.
We will be giving three of these charities £1000, voted for by you, so please take a moment to read about them below and nominate yours.
There is a mixture of small and large, national and local charities, all incredibly important and worthy of support.
We’d like to take this opportunity to applaud everyone nominated for the important work they do – you are all heroes.

Leeds Mind

Leeds Mind promotes positive mental health and wellbeing, and provides help and support to those who need it.
They offer many services, including: counselling, group therapy, social support, peer support, self-directed support, social prescribing, housing support, employment support, suicide bereavement support, and mental health training.
One in four people experience mental health difficulties at some point in their lives including depression, anxiety, stress, self-harm, personality disorder, bereavement and many other negative mental health experiences.

Spotlight UK started out to provide low cost activities to help increase confidence and self-esteem to children and young people across Basingstoke.
This vision quickly grew and we were able to provide emotional and practical support as well as enjoyable and fun activities to hundreds of children and young people across the area every year Spotlight believes everybody should have access to fun activities and emotional support despite financial restraints. The charity provides activities for all children including after school clubs, holiday clubs, youth clubs, performing arts activities, arts & craft, sports and trips.

Broxbourne Borough Cerebral Palsy FC

The Broxbourne Borough
Cerebral Palsy Football Club (BBCPFC) was founded by Gavin and Tracy Taylor –
their son, Jackson, has Cerebral Palsy and was unable to play football with his
able bodied friends yet there were no facilities or clubs in the local area
where Jackson could participate in the sport he loves.
As he grew older, he found it increasingly difficult (and dangerous) to keep up with his able bodied friends and as a result he became quite isolated. With the encouragement of friends and the Broxbourne Borough club, they decided to start a dedicated Cerebral Palsy team to help Jackson and other CP children participate safely in playing football.
BBCPFC has gone from strength to strength and now has 25 boys and girls who attend every week without fail.

Buttle UK

Buttle UK is a charity dedicated to helping children and young people who are in crisis reach their potential by providing small but targeted and effective interventions via our Chances for Children Grants.
These grants can range from a single household item such as a bed, to larger, more comprehensive grants of up to £2,000 to help remove the material barriers to education, training or wellbeing that a child or young person may be facing.

Jak’s Den

Jak’s Den in Livingston offers emotional, social and practical support to children and young people aged 0 to 25 from all over Scotland who have been diagnosed with cancer, a related illness and their families and friends or who have sadly been bereaved.
Our children and young people and their families and friends can come to the Den during opening hours or by appointment at other times.
We have drop-in sessions, music therapy, counselling, pamper days, alternative therapies, activity days including cake decorating, puppet making, magic shows, teen days- X-Box and PS4 challenges, arts and crafts, coffee mornings and much more.
Team Jak was set up at the request of inspirational teenager Jak Trueman following his own journey with childhood cancer.
Overgate Hospice

Overgate Hospice has been at the heart of the Calderdale community for over 35 years is here to help people with people with life-limiting illnesses.
The aim of the charity is to try and improve the quality of life for patients and help them to live life to the full to the very end. They do this by offering specialist palliative care, comfort and support, free of charge, to patients and their families.
They are an independent charity, based in Elland, Halifax and rely heavily on funding from our local community to ensure our care is available for future generations.

The Scratching Post Cat Rescue

The Scratching Post is a cat rescue charity, based in Waltham Abbey, Essex, set up to ensure that no cats are ever kept in unsuitable accommodation while waiting for a new home.
Every cat’s individual needs are catered for and the best expert help is provided. Cats are never put to sleep unless there is no hope of being able to save him or her with a good quality of life, as advised by vets.
The scratching post also deals with feral cats. These cats are trapped, neutered and returned to where they came from, or found a new site.
Whilst they are with the charity, they are kept in an open plan enclosure, where they have space to run, hide and play.
