JJ Targets Women for HGV Driver Jobs
Updated: 23 February, 2024
JJ Foodservice has just launched a female friendly recruitment campaign to encourage more women to consider HGV driver roles.
As Brexit kicks in and European workers return home, there’s been a huge shortage of delivery drivers in the UK. JJ is aiming to fill the gap by broadening its talent pool.
“Only 1% of HGV drivers in the UK are women – we want to help change that,” said JJ’s HR Manager, Joanna Florczak.
Women’s jobs were found to be 1.8 times more vulnerable to the global pandemic than men’s (McKinsey).
Traditionally, HGV driver roles may not have appealed to females. But advances in technology have taken the physicality out of the job. “Plus, many of our drivers have ‘helpers’ and work as a team,” said Joanna.
JJ offers HGV drivers permanent contracts with no evenings or weekends, and attractive salaries of up to £35K.
“Our drivers are the face of our business – they are friendly, professional and provide the great service that JJ has become well-known and loved for,” she added.
The wholesaler offers in-house training, long-term career prospects and modern vehicles. “When you are driving all day – automatic steering and a comfy seat matter!” she said.
Benefits include:
✅ Monday to Friday (no nights or weekends)
✅ Permanent contract (no agencies)
✅ 28 days holiday
✅ Pension scheme
✅ Childcare vouchers
✅ Employee discounts
✅ Long-term career prospects
✅ Comfy, automatic vehicle
